Neath Abbey Swansea Case Study:
From Loose Gravel and Cracked Concrete to a Premium, Desirable Resin Driveway & Path
Location: Neath Abbey, Swansea
Aggregate: Spring Time
Preparation: Full Excavation & Tarmac Open-Graded Base Course
Finish: Premier 20mm Minimum Thickness Standard
We headed to Neath Abbey to tackle a property that had plenty of potential but was being held back by its outdated entrance. The driveway was a patchwork of loose gravel, worn-down tarmac, and cracked concrete. Ultimately, a classic high-maintenance headache for any South Wales homeowner.

The Challenge: A High-Maintenance Mess
The "Before" images show exactly what the owners were dealing with. Loose stones were being walked into the house, weeds were sprouting through the cracks in the concrete, and the overall look was tired and uneven. Specifically, two prominent manhole covers in the middle of the drive were eyesores that interrupted the visual flow of the property.
The Foundation (Tarmac Substrate)
At Premier Resin Drives, we know that a premium surface is only as good as what’s underneath it. Unlike some installers who might pour over old concrete, we performed a full excavation.
As seen in the progress photos, we laid a fresh, open-graded tarmac base course. This isn't just about strength; it's about functionality. This specific substrate is designed to be permeable, allowing water to pass through effortlessly. This ensures the final driveway is fully SUDS compliant, meaning no more puddles after a heavy Swansea downpour!
The Result: A Premium, Desirable Finish
Once the foundation was set, we hand-trowelled our signature Spring Time resin bound gravel at our Premier 20mm thickness. This is 25% thicker than the industry average, providing a robust, SUV-ready surface.
Key features of this transformation include:
- Invisible Manhole Covers: We utilised recessed "inlay" lids, filling them with the same resin-bound stone. Now, the manholes are flush and nearly invisible, creating one continuous, elegant surface.
- A "Golden" Welcome: The warm, golden tones of the aggregate provide an instant lift to the red-brick facade of the house.
- Precision Edging: We used dark grey block borders to frame the resin, providing a crisp, professional boundary that defines the driveway from the neighbouring property.
- UV Stability: This drive won't fade or "yellow" over time. It’s built to stay this vibrant for 25+ years.
Why Neath Abbey Chooses Premier Resin Drives:
- 14+ Years of Expertise: We’ve seen it all and fixed it all across South Wales.
- Superior Thickness: Our 20mm standard ensures a crack-free, long-lasting finish.
- Local Trust: With hundreds of 5-star reviews, we are Swansea's go-to for quality surfacing.
